Sadly dinosaurs went extinct.
We think that the Earth’s climate changed over millions of years, this probably included volcanoes erupting and a lot of climate change. It was this change in climate that led to the dinos becoming extinct.
The current understanding is that the earth was hit by a large asteroid 66 million years ago. It was about 10 – 15km wide and hit the earth somewhere in Mexico. It made a huge crater, shockwaves and threw lots of debris into the atmosphere which changed the climate. About 75% of all animals died out at this time.
Most dinosaurs went extinct 66 million years ago when the meteor hit the Earth. However, one group of dinosaurs did survive this disaster and became extremely successful. This group are called birds and they are all around us today!
