I moved to the UK when I was 18 to pursue my higher education at the University of Sheffield. Since then I’ve moved between Sheffield and Cambridgeshire to pursue a PhD and a full time job. I absolutely love dogs but since I can’t have my own yet I walk a dog named Freya every other week. I am also very musical and in school I used to sing and dance. I now participate in concerts for Salsa. I also love planning and organising events and am an event organiser for two biotech focused non profits.

I develop diagnostic devices for infectious diseases. Currently I am working on some diagnostic kits to detect COVID-19. My work involves research and development – so I do all the first bits of research and develop a proof of principle test that is then passed onto the manufacturing teams to build the final device for our customers.

My Typical Day:
I wake up in the morning (not a morning person!) and head to work. My job is from 8-4am and I come home during lunch. For the first half of my day at work I perform experiments and the later half I analyse data from my experiments. My evenings are always full with volunteering / hobbies / walking dogs etc.

I wake up early and head to work after breakfast. At work, I usually plan my day the day before. I start off by performing experiments and then gather the data. I then head home for lunch or go for a walk. The second half of my working day is spend analysing data and prepping for the next working day. At 4pm, I walk home, have a shower and start working on my voluntary work. I organise events for two biotech non profits and this takes a lot of planning, meetings. On free evenings, I go for salsa classes or to the gym.

I’d use the money to create a mentoring network for girls who want to join STEM and for women in STEM.
