I chose my particular field as I knew from my time at university that being in the lab all the time wasn’t for me! So, by taking a PhD in robotics for chemistry I’m setting myself up for a job outside of the lab afterwards, either working with robots and software or working with other peoples inventions 🙂
I never thought I would end up studying magnets. But at uni I was doing an open day for potential students and I was demonstrating an experiment with a really lovely lecturer, in between talking to the students she told me all about her research into these funky magnets and I fell in love right then and there. We then applied for some money so I could do a project with her over the summer and we got it, so I had a great time doing a little project. Then I asked if I could stay for my Masters project and now she is my PhD supervisor! Basically I never left 🙂
