One of the latest discoveries coming out of my lab, was work on a pathogenic yeast called Candida auris. We were interested how it changes its genome and its chromosomes under stress and whether this makes them resistant to antifungals (antibiotics used to treat people with fungal and yeast infections). And we found that it changes its genome quickly and it can become resistant to antifungals very quickly. We try now to do experiments to figure out how it does this.
