Adrenaline is used to treat anaphylaxis (a bad allergic reaction). The adrenaline causes blood vessels to narrow, and opens up the airways which makes breathing easier for the patient. – hope this helps!

Adrenaline helps to decrease some of the fluid build up that can be caused by an allergic reaction and reverses some of the circulatory problems. There are also mediators released from immune cells called mast cells including histamine and an increase in an antibody called IgE that adrenalin helps to decrease.

Adrenaline is used in cases of anaphylaxis because it helps combat a lot of the negative effects an allergic reaction causes – it combats throat swelling, difficulty breathing and low blood pressure to name a few.

These physiological things also happen when adrenaline is released when you go into fight or flight mode, I guess you can think of adrenaline helping your body to fight off the severe allergic reaction! 🙂
