My main inspiration is one of my lecturers/teachers from University. She’s an oceanographer which means she studies the oceans and how they work. She was always telling us stories about working on a research ship and the experiments she did, it made me want to do the same. She’s also a really lovely and supportive person and has helped me a lot since University too!

This is a great question. My inspiration is my grandparents who had brain diseases. They inspired me when I was growing up and always encouraged me to learn more and to be the best person that I could possibly be <3 <3 <3

My inspiration to get into Chemistry was probably my teacher during my A-levels, reflecting back on it now! He was a really charismatic guy with a real love for science and that made me want to learn more. He also taught me how to see the science all around me (like telling me how atoms are more than 99% empty space, yet everything is made up of atoms… huh?!?). Once I started to see the world in a different way, I haven’t been able to stop!

I’ve had a few. A teacher in primary school helped me with my maths and really improved it. Then at secondary school, I had a great history teacher (still there actually) who inspired me to do the best I can. But it was our physics teachers, they would take us on trips to hear lecturers and were really enthusiastic about the subject and answered our questions.

At university, my boss was really inspiring because he encouraged me and gave me a lot of support. I have mentors at the moment which I think really helps.

Firstly, I had lots of brilliant teachers all through school but my favourites were my GCSE science teachers, Mr Davidson (Davo) and Ms Jackson (who were actually married). I never thought I would be interested in magnets, even at uni, but then I met Lucy on an open day when I was demonstrating for prospective students and she told me all about these funky magnets and her research group. I fell in love with this idea then, and I did a summer project, Masters project and now my PhD in her group.
