Hello, I wasn’t too sure about this so I looked it up! It looks like this is one of the farthest planets away from Earth that we know it. Over 13,000 light years away!
Hi, I’m not an astronomer but have just learnt something cool from reading your question. This planet was detected using microlensing – which is a telescope that sees how gravity bends the light emitted from another star! This means you can see things really far away, or things that aren’t so bright, like exoplanets.
Honestly, I haven’t heard of this before! My work is much more chemistry-in-the-lab focussed then up in the stars! But a quick google and I now know its a gas planet about 13000 light-years away.
Given that one light-year is 6 trillion miles, thats pretty far away… infact its one of the most distant planets that we have information about! It’s located within our galaxy, but is a lot more toward the middle of the galaxy than we are 🙂
