We don’t know yet. It is being looked at in aeroplanes as part of the carbon fibre composite used in planes like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. Some people think it might be useful in helping protect the planes from lightning strikes. In smartphones, it might have a role in some of the circuits or even in helping to make the batteries last longer. People are trying both of these things at present.

Its structure is like a honeycomb and this means its very strong, flexible and can conduct well so should have loads of applications. One of the challenges with this type of science is making things actually work in the real world. I studied a material that is very similar to graphene but is also magnetic, so that means it could have extra applications.
